End-to-End Announces Its Support of 11 Charities in 2009
The Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust today announces that it will support 11 charities with funds raised in the 2009 Catlin End-to-End event.
"Each year some 250 dedicated people walk, cycle or otherwise make their way across Bermuda in the spirit of giving to others in the community," says End-to-End chair Anne Mello. "This year, when the economy is not as robust, we are more conscious than ever of the needs of children and seniors, and this is where we have pledged to put most of the funds from the 2009 event."
Ms. Mello added that while the Catlin End-to-End event normally distributes more than $250,000 in grants to five or six local charitable organisations, this year the trustees of the Bermuda End-to-End Charity decided that smaller grants would be made to several charities.
"We believe that spreading our giving more widely helps more individuals," Ms. Mello adds. "Our largest support went to youth, from sponsoring free meals for Bermuda schoolchildren, to paying for reading tutors, to supporting programmes for talented children, to ensuring extra-curricular pursuits like music lessons are available to schoolchildren as well. We also supported projects for counselling families in crisis, and for those with special needs."
The Catlin End-to-End event is organised by the Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust, and is supported by numerous local sponsors and more than 2,500 individual participants. The Catlin End-to-End’s mission is to be Bermuda’s premier annual charitable pledge event, committed to promoting the happiness and well-being of our island community through all-inclusive activities.
