Get Ready Get Fit for 2012 Catlin End-to-End

Health Minister Zane DeSilva has joined forces with the island’s largest charitable organization to launch the 12-week fitness programme leading up to the May 5 Catlin End-to-End event.

Get Ready, Get Fit brochures, featuring the event’s lively 25th anniversary logo, will be placed in island mailboxes to encourage local residents to begin the training programme - which begins with a 45-minute walk on Sunday, February 12, and ends with the May 5 island-wide fundraiser. The brochure can also be downloaded from the End-to-End website www.bermudaendtoend.bm .

At a news conference today, Minister DeSilva joined Graham Pewter, CEO of Title Sponsor Catlin Bermuda, Frank Amaral, CEO of CellularOne, Platinum-level sponsor, and End-to-End chair Anne Mello in launching the event.

“This year is the 25th End-to-End event, and we are in celebration mode,” said Mrs. Mello. “We can claim to be the longest-running charitable event in Bermuda, and have raised more than $4 million for local charities over this time – making a huge difference in the lives of thousands of Bermuda residents.

“It has already been a banner year for us, as we were named Best Community Project by the Best of Bermuda awards and the Best Products and Services Award by The Bermudian magazine,” she added. “While we are very pleased with our success, we want to make this our best event ever.”

Among the special events marking the anniversary are:

  • A free 5 k practice walk beginning at 2 p.m. at Fort St. Catherine in St. George’s on February 19;
  • A $25, 25th Anniversary Pasta Banquet at La Trattoria restaurant on May 2;
  • Special entertainment and events at the Dockyard finish line on the day of the event.

Funds raised in the 2012 event will support 7 charities, with an emphasis on youth, seniors and families.

The Catlin End-to-End event is organized by the Bermuda End-to-End Charitable Trust, and is sponsored by numerous local sponsors and more than 2,500 individual participants. The Catlin End-to-End’s mission is to be Bermuda’s premier annual charitable pledge event, committed to promoting the happiness and wellbeing of our island community through all-inclusive activities.
