Grand Opening of the Northwest Rampart at the new National Museum of Bermuda
Join the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs on May 1 at the Catlin End-to-End finish for the grand opening of the Northwest Rampart (leading to the Casemate Barracks), a significant addition to the new National Museum of Bermuda and an invaluable contribution to Bermuda's historic environments.
The grand opening of the Northwest Rampart presents a unique opportunity to educate the public on the ‘monumental works’ of the fortifications of the Dockyard. In addition, this journey though that historic environment also affords the opportunity to highlight Bermuda's traditional modes of transportation, as were used in the earlier centuries of our settlement and which were less destructive to our environment
We invite the public to walk, carpool or ferry to the Dockyard and celebrate Bermuda’s most valued asset – our environment - by taking a horse and buggy ride into our past via the Northwest Rampart and experience all there is to see and do. Activities for the grand opening of the Northwest Rampart include:
- A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at with special guests the Premier of Bermuda, Dr. the Hon. Ewart F. Brown JP, MP and Mrs. Brown at 12 p.m.
- An Open House at the National Museum at Dockyard (including parts of the Casemate Barracks area) from 10am to 4pm, including Dolphin Quest
- Free horse and buggy rides
- Live Bermuda Folk Music
- An electric bike, car and antique horse and buggy display
- An all-natural Kiddie Zone
- All natural food vendors
The Department extends a special “thank you” to the National Museum of Bermuda and to the organizers and participants of the Catlin End-to-End, who annually highlight the enriching experience of our oldest form of transportation – walking.
